JWS sponsors two 2-day workshops per year in conjunction with our Spring and Fall exhibitions.
One-day workshops are available periodically and are usually given by local artists.
The instructor for the 2-day workshop generally serves as juror for the exhibition and provides a “sneak preview” of the workshop at our monthly meeting on the Tuesday prior to the two-day workshop.
Information about the workshop instructor, examples of artwork, website, workshop, and supply list are with the scheduled workshop.

1. General Information
Location and times:
--All workshops are held at the Jacksonville Gem & Mineral Society building,
3733 Crown Point Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32257, between San Jose Blvd and Old St. Augustined Rd, a few miles north of I-295 ramps.
--Classes are from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, unless otherwise published.
--We provide coffee, water and light snacks. Bring your own lunch.
--Class sizes are limited to 18 students to ensure individual attention and a table of your own.
--Directions and information about workshop instructor, materials list, and workshop outline, times, etc. will be provided before the workshop to those attending.
Fees for 2-day workshops:
--Total cost is $375 for members and $425 for non-members.
--A $100 non-refundable deposit is available at registration
--The balance or payment in full is due 30 days before the workshop.
--A reminder to pay the balance due 30 days before the workshop will be sent.
--Space is reserved on a first come basis for those who have paid the required fee.
--Refunds less than 30 days before the workshop begins are not available unless there is someone on the waiting list to fill the vacancy.
--If a workshop must be canceled, all fees will be refunded.
--All refunds are paid by JWS check.

This workshop features two nationally recognized artists, and popular workshop instructors, who happen to be married. We are lucky enough to have both of them giving us one day each in our 2-day workshop. A real bargain!

"Loose Expressive Watercolors - with Flowers": Janet Rogers will demonstrate various “fun” exercises geared to interpret flowers in an expressive manner. Discovering the unique “nature” of individual flowers and “finding” new colors will be highlighted. Demonstrations and individual help will weave throughout the workshop, with an emphasis on letting the medium of watercolor lead the students to new adventures in watercolor. (PLEIN AIR – in studio!) Some goals include “keeping the white paper”, avoiding “mud”, intuitive color and composition. – Students can bring some of their favorites also. All levels welcome.
Janet's Supply List
Janet Rogers, AWS - has been a working professional artist for over 35 years and has achieved Signature Status in The American Watercolor Society, The Florida Watercolor Society, South Carolina Watercolor Society and others. She has garnered many awards over the years for her sensitive paintings of people which are spontaneous, direct, and expressive. Janet shares easily with others her passion and joy for the fluid and unexpected nature of watercolor. Her workshops and demonstrations featuring impressions of people and also flowers are very popular across the United States, Canada, and in Europe.
"Painting Light in Watercolor" - Steve Rogers Renowned for his masterful control of light and atmosphere in landscapes and harbor scenes, Steve teaches artists how to observe and translate light with intention.
Focus: Practical light observation, a specialized presentation on the "Secrets of Painting Reflections," and step-by-step guidance.
Format: A collaborative, back-and-forth demo and painting structure designed for maximum progress in a single day.
Preparation: Registered students will receive a simple image in advance to trace or project prior to class. Students may work from Steve's provided image or their own photo. (Note: Work must be original—no copies of other artists' work or AI-generated images).
Steve's Supply List
Steve Rogers, AWS, NWS, TWSA - has been teaching workshops throughout North America and In the Mediterranean for over 30 years. As a Representational Artist, Steve portrays the beauty of light and color as he experiences it. Through his trips, he has been able to paint "this beautiful land not as one who sees it every day, but as a “visitor”, who is awestruck by something fresh and new and at the same time very ancient." As an Intuitive Abstract Artist, Steve is inspired by the plein air locations throughout the United States and Mediterranean Europe. "When I return to the studio my passion has increasingly become painting the emotion and spiritual feeling of place rather than elaborating on the representational imagery I have already created in the field.

This is two step process.

Come back to this page to complete step 2 below.
Step 2. Pay fee for the workshop

depending on membership status (member only or non-member)
and whether it is a deposit, balance due, or full fee for the 2-Day Workshop,
then press the “Pay Now” button below.
You may pay with your own PayPal account or by credit card -- fill out the requested information as a PayPal guest.

A small convenience fee of $3.00 is added for online payments.
